Local government e-procurement strategy

The total cost of processing purchase orders for local authorities in England and Wales per annum is a staggering £2.5 billion based on £25 billion of purchasing spend for third party goods and services. Local Government e-procurement initiatives are being pursued in order to leverage negotiating power, improve process and drive reduction in cost for these goods and services. On average e-procurement can deliver savings of 2.8% contributing to the procurement savings target for government of £1.1 billion.

Most importantly, savings from better sourcing and better process can be regenerated into enhancing front line services.
